Rumor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 To Be Unveiled On August 11th
Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors are candy of every eye when they are looking for a smartphone. They are the most desired chips in the smartphone industry. And 800 series is simply a masterpiece. But 810 chip was hit with a little disappointment since it was plagued by heating issue, the company has overcome the issue though but some wounds never heal.
Qualcomm is thinking to heal the wounds with the launch of another processor - the Snapdrgaon 820. And, if some reports are true, it is going to be announced on August 11th.
Qualcomm has given us some glimpse of its upcoming processor. It will be manufactured on a FinFET process (likely Samsung's 14 nm technology). It is also being reported that the processor will be powered by Qualcomm's own ARMv8-A CPU core rather than ARM's reference Cortex A53 and A57 - which are in Snapdragon 810.
Nevertheless, the reports also affirm that the SoC will support ultrasonic waves. It can be used to generate a 3D map of fingerprints.
The rumors also suggest that the 820 chip samples have been finished. HTC and Sony were the first to test them. With the new chip, Qualcomm has reverted back to quad-core architecture.
Keep in mind that the upcoming Huawei Nexus phone will be the first to feature Snapdragon 820 chipset.
Fasten your seatbelts since the unveil of Snapdragon 820 is just a week away. We will tell you more once we get to know the chipset.
